Teen Driver's Education
The state of Texas requires teen drivers (ages 15-17) to complete a state-approved driver education course in order to apply for a Texas Teen Driver License.

What You Need to Know:
The Texas Teen Driver Education course consists of two parts:

32 hours of "classroom" instruction
-
14 hours of in-car instruction (consists of 7 hours of driving and 7 hours of observation)
The student will complete their 32 hours of "classroom" instruction through a TDLR-licensed driver education course / driving school, and the 14 hours of in-car instruction with a TDLR-licensed driving instructor.
Basic Progress Breakdown:
1. Enroll in a teen driver's ed course (whether in-person or online)
2. Complete the Knowledge Exam and receive the certificate to apply for your Texas Permit
Note: Student must be at least 15 years-old to apply for the Texas Permit
3. Begin on your in-car instruction with the driving school

A transfer certificate noting completion of the 32 hrs of classroom instruction is required
4. Receive the final completion certificate for Teen Driver's Education

Pricing Plans are valid for one year. This means that customers have one year from the date of purchase to complete driving services included in their respective driving package.

Teen Driver Package
The Teen Driver Package fulfills the required 14-hrs of required in-car instruction for a Texas Teen Driver Education Course.
The Package is structured as follows:

Seven (7) two-hour sessions where the students complete one hour of Driving and one hour of Observation

Teen Driving sessions are subject to scheduling students in paired drives -- while one student drives, the other will be observing. The students will then switch so that they may each complete their respective driving / observation time.

In the case for students who are not paired up for their driving appointment, the student will complete their observation hour with the driving instructor.

Texas Teens can complete their DPS Driving Exam through A&K Driving Austin!
NOTE: Before scheduling an appointment, the teen driver MUST meet ALL of the following requirements -

be at least 16 years old on the day of their road test appointment

have held their Texas Learner's Permit for AT LEAST 6 months
-
completed ALL of their Teen Driver's Education course requirements
-
completed their 30 hrs of additional behind-the-wheel driving practice
-
complete their Texas Teen IMPACT Course
